Reviewing PRS Systems
A brief overview of our assessment of various personal response systems with an explanation of why we recommend GTCO CalComp.
We assessed a variety of systems for the leading vendors. In each case we
requested a demonstration version to test and invited the vendor to present
their system. Our testing included installation of hardware and software,
developing sample courses, and trying the system in large lecture hall
classroom. In our testing, we found:
Why GTCO CalComp?
- Some systems were RF only.
- Some systems required students register with the vendor and pay an ongoing fee.
- Some systems required storage of personal student data on the vendor's corporate servers.
- Some systems claimed to work cross-platform but did not offer the full suite of options on both Mac and Windows computers.
- Some systems were tied to specific textbook publishers.
- Some systems required extensive training.
- Some systems failed to properly operate during the vendor demo.
- Some systems required instructors to heavily invest in their desktop
software.
