Using Electronic Gradebooks

In Fall 2005, UCLA began requiring that instructors submit grades via MyUCLA Gradebook. However, My Gradebook is more than just a way to submit grades – it’s a course management tool that allows Instructors and TAs to maintain class gradebooks through the Internet.

To sample MyUCLA Gradebook, go to: http://my.ucla.edu and select Sample Faculty Session on the left hand side of the page. Then select Gradebook under one of the course headings.

Two versions will appear:  the more detailed grade tracking version of Gradebook and the Gradebook Express.

Features of MyUCLA include the ability to:

Maintain accurate grades for each student and each assignment and examination, using official class rosters updated daily by the Registrar's Office.

Provide quick and secure transmission of final grades to the Registrar's Office at the end of each quarter.

Allow students to view their grades on their MyUCLA pages at any time during the quarter and to read comments that faculty may wish to provide.

Upload scores/grades generated by spreadsheet software. Even if you don't want to use My Gradebook as your main tool for tracking grades, it will allow you to upload scores and grades in comma delimited or tab delimited format from virtually any spreadsheet software. That way you can use your preferred tool for tracking grades while still giving undergraduate the option of tracking their performance over the Web.

Note: TAs can administer My Gradebook, but only after faculty set permissions. The link above will allow anyone to run a practice faculty session to learn the system.
