The Nuts & Bolts of Lesson Plan Design: This lesson plan focuses on how to design an effective lesson plan for discussion sections and labs using discipline-agnostic lesson design principles. Points that it covers include: 1) What is a lesson plan? 2) Why write a lesson plan? 3) How to create dynamic yet flexible lesson plans 4) Effective beginnings and endings 5) The importance of post-lesson reflection for TAs.
Section Policy Sheet: A policy sheet is a contract between the TA and students outlining the expectations, policies and procedures for students enrolled in the course.
Surviving the First Quarter of Teaching: Are you nervous about your first quarter of teaching? This workshop will discuss how to prepare for the first day and beyond. Topics will include: bridging the gap between faculty and students, managing classroom dynamics, handling academic dishonesty, and grasping the TA’s role in undergraduate education. Participants will also take home practical skills such as best practices for syllabus and section policy sheet design.
