Instructional Media Lab Policies

The OID Media Lab is the primary media-viewing venue for materials from the Instructional Media Collections & Services (IMCS) and Film & Television Archives Research & Study Center (ARSC) collections.
The Media Lab provides access to media and equipment for course related study, for group instruction and for research of moving image media.
Our goal is to create and maintain an environment conducive to study and research for all of our patrons.
- Mutual respect and consideration for all Media Lab patrons and staff is expected
- Photo ID is required to access Media Lab facilities
- Food and beverages are prohibited in the Media Lab
- Cell phone use is prohibited in the Media Lab
Media Lab viewing rooms may be used, on a first come/first served basis, by groups of (2) or more as follows:
- Currently enrolled UCLA students who are viewing approved media from the IMCS collection; ARSC collection; an instructor’s personal collection and/or departmental materials that have been placed on reserve specifically for their class.
- Currently registered ARSC clients conducting approved research of moving image media from the ARSC study collection.
- Currently enrolled UCLA students reviewing media they have personally requested from the IMCS or ARSC collection in conjunction with their course work.
Currently enrolled UCLA students may request to use Media Lab viewing rooms as study space if availability permits, and at the discretion of the supervisor on duty.
Media Lab viewing rooms may be scheduled in advance by:
- Faculty and TAs accessing the ARSC /IMCS study collection media for class screenings.
Viewing rooms must be vacated once the media has been viewed except in the case of a scheduled class screening. All media viewing is to be completed within a reasonable length of time; and reserve materials are subject to recall at any time.
***Please note that instructors should contact Audio Visual Services (AVS) to try to arrange for a screening in their assigned classroom before requesting a reservation at the Media Lab.
