AVS Updates - Winter Quarter 2010
Audio Visual Services would like to thank faculty and departmental staff for a successful Fall Quarter. There are some policy reminders and updates to instructional technology that we would like to highlight below:
Equipment Returns
All faculty members who have checked out equipment for the quarter should make arrangements to return it before the campus shutdown or contact Audio Visual Services to see how to renew the checkout. Some equipment still needs to be brought back to AVS even if it renewed (e.g. wireless microphones need to be reprogrammed). If you have any questions about a Fall Quarter check out, please contact us at 310-206-6597.
New Media Classrooms
Six new media classrooms were built during the Fall Quarter: three in Bunche Hall, two in Royce Hall, and one in Franz Hall. They are all capable of data projection, DVD or VHS playback, and voice amplification. Classroom computers will also be added to each room.
Voice Amplification
During the Fall Quarter, most of the remaining classrooms had their wireless microphone system upgraded to the Audio-Technica model. Effective Winter Quarter, Audio Visual Services will no longer check out the older Samson microphone unit.
The classrooms that are still on the Samson system normally do not get many microphone requests due to their class size; however, if you are assigned to a room that has not been upgraded yet and would like a wireless microphone, then please contact us and we will work with Classroom Technology Design and Maintenance to convert the room as soon as possible.
Document Cameras
AverMedia document cameras were added to several more auditoriums, including Dodd 147, Moore 100, and the Court of Sciences rooms (24, 50, and 76). These units function as either an overhead camera or a transparency projector and replace the traditional “overhead” projector normally assigned to classrooms.
During Winter Quarter 2010, a specific tutorial for the document camera will become available on our web site. Direct training is also available for this equipment.
Multiple Projector Classroom Debut
Franz 1178 was upgraded as the first media classroom to have a three projector system. The center projection acts as the primary image, and the left and right projections mirror each other and can either display the same image as the center or contrasting information.

Enjoy the Winter Break and we will see you on January 4th.
