AVS Glossary
- Departmental Classroom
- There are two kinds of classrooms on campus: general assignment and
departmental. Departmental classrooms are available for use only by the
department that owns them. That department is responsible for scheduling
its classrooms, and AVS serves them only through special arrangement with
the department. General assignment classrooms are available for use by all
departments, are scheduled through the UCLA Registrar's office, and are
served by AVS.
- General Assignment Classroom

- Lavalier (microphone)
- Lavalier microphones are small and usually clip to the speaker's collar
or hang from a cord around the speaker's neck.
- LD Player
- LD stands for Laser Disc. If you need an LD Player and your room does
not have one, or if you need a different type of format (DVD, PAL), call
206-6591 to see if such equipment can be delivered.
- Media-Equipped Classrooms
- Rooms that have some sort of audio-visual equipment installed as a
permanent feature of the room, such as video/data projectors, P.A. systems,
booths, media cabinets, etc.
- Regular Classrooms
- Rooms that only have equipment which AVS has placed in there.
- Video Equipment
- We use this term to refer to all types of video equipment, including
monitors and VCRs, as well as video and data projectors.
- Will-Call
- Will-call refers to equipment that is picked up and brought back to AVS
by the person who will be using it.
