students to the rhetoric used by American Presidents during the
"television age." Topics will include: inaugural addresses, radio
addresses, videotaped remarks, domestic speeches, major addresses
abroad, speeches in the wake of national tragedies, major wartime
addresses, campaign speeches, commencement addresses, and farewell
remarks. |

What are girls made of? In
this course we want to investigate the relation of concepts of
femininity to cultural consumption and production. While analyzing
various images of the girl in 1850-1930 Western Europe, we will
grapple with many issues still relevant today. |
