In addition to being Chancellor of UCLA, Albert Carnesale holds faculty appointments in the Department of Policy Studies at the School of Public Policy and Social Research and in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Prof. Carnesale is a leading expert on foreign and defense policy matters, having served as a consultant to the Executive Office of the President; the Departments of Defense, Energy, and State; the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency; and the Director of Central Intelligence. Prof. Carnesale also participated in the U.S. delegation to the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT I, 1970-72).

• In the aftermath of September 11, 2002, Chancellor Carnesale presided at “A Moment of Remembrance” on the steps of Royce Hall. You may view a webcast of the event.
• Responding to the events of 9/11, the UCLA College of Letters and Science created 50 new courses exploring the range of issues emerging from the terrorist attacks. The seminars were offered to lower division by senior faculty. Chancellor Carnesale taught a course entitled “National Security in the 21st Century”.
