Thirty-five years ago, on October 29, 1969, the first Internet
message was sent from computer science Professor Leonard Kleinrock's
laboratory at UCLA to a computer 300 miles away at Stanford Reseach
Institute, ushering in a new method of global communications that
forever changed the course of business, politics, entertainment,
education, law and social interaction.
To celebrate this historic event, Prof. Kleinrock and the UCLA
Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science held a
special day-long forum on the UCLA campus on Friday, October 29,
2004. At that forum, the four fathers of the Internet and some of
the other early pioneers of the Internet, as well as many of its
rising stars spent the day taking a closer look at how the Internet
came to be what it is today, how it has affected the world, and what
it will be like tomorrow.
